Hi and hello to all the CCF members. I have been collecting coins for well over 25 years. but just joined the this is a great site with beautiful people full of knowledge. Ok so here is my dilemma (if you want to call it that) I bought this 1872CC liberty Seated quarter. while ago before I was deployed, sat in my coin box for a while like 5 years The coin looks like was partly cleaned. I knew that before I bought it I'm crossroads as to what to do with the coin. 1 Should I send it in to PCGS and have them professionally clean and grade coin. I just send in to just get graded. 3 just hold on to coin and do nothing with it and try to sell as is. The readied edges are deep and coin shows good detail Asking the CAC family for advise on what should I do at this point. Thank you all for your time to look and help much love ROBBIE

Wow. The 1872cc 25c is upwards of $20,000 in AU. It looks to me to have AU details in certain places. But the coin is severely corroded and then harshly cleaned chemically. Not sure what it is worth other than what someone who really wants a coin with this level of damage is willing to pay for it.

Your best bet is option #1 in my opinion.

Getting it "conserved" and into a detail slab is a must do. As is stands now the coin may only degrade further if nothing is done to it.

Anyway, for it to bring anything worthwhile down the road it will have to be slabbed.

PCGS with conservation.

What would that cost all in,including what the op paid for the coin and what would the retail value be after it is slabbed?

No clue what he paid but the simple authentication for a real one regardless of any conservation would be more than worth the money. 1872 CC quarter is a 100 percent send it in every time if it's real coin.

Of all the examples of this date that I've seen, the CC mintmark is spread very wide.

I think the OP's coin suffers from being buried a long time in a harsh environment.

The coin was Buried in the front yard OF A 1920'S House when house was demolished he found it buried down in the ground about 7 feet down. Gods know for how long. so that being said will send in to PCGS since I am a member there anyway.I just wanted to share with CAC family and to have the best option. Will keep you posted once I get back for m PCGS I will have the clean and grade coin. THAKS MUCH LOVE Robbie
