Australians all let us rejoice, For we are young and free; We've golden soil and wealth for toil, Our home is girt by sea; Our land abounds in Nature's gifts Of beauty rich and rare; In history's page, let every stage Advance Australia fair! In joyful strains then let us sing, "Advance Australia fair!"
We get to sing it again in the US tommorrow, since it's already the 26th down under. I'll hoist a Victoria bitter tonight! (since our Foster's is brewed in Canada under license!)

Another hot summers day to relax and watch the Cricket on TV. It was on this day in 1901 that Australia became it's own country. But we kept the Queen as our own. LOL.

Happy Australia Day.
A very hot day, one were we think how nice it would be to live in a colder country. How ironic!
Go to love the queens and the cricket though.

A bunch of Aussie rowing fans taught me the lyrics at the Atlanta olympics. along with Aussie-Aussie-Aussie-Oy-Oy-Oy! Undergrads where I went to school are infamous for singing "we don't know the blanking words, we don't know the blank words, etc to the tune of the fight song. They don't say blank, of course Hope you had a good hoiday. Don

I can remember back a few decades when we voted in the 70s for a National Anthem.
I voted for Dorothea Mackellar's
My Country
I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains, Of ragged mountain ranges, Of droughts and flooding rains, I love her far horizons, I love her jewel sea, Her beauty and her terror - The wide brown land for me.
The stark white ringbarked forests, All tragic to the moon, The saphire-misted mountains, The hot gold hush of noon. Green tangle of the brushes, Where lithe lianas coil, And orchids deck the tree-tops And ferns the warm dark soil. Core of my heart, my country! Her pitiless blue sky, When sick at heart, around us, We see the cattle die - But when the grey clouds gather, And we can bless again The drumming of an army, The stealthy soaking rain. Core of my heart, my country! Land of the rainbow gold, For flood and fire and famine, She pays us back threefold; Over the thirsty paddocks, Watch, after many days, The filmy veil of greenness That thickens as we gaze.
An opal-hearted country, A wilful, lavish land - All you who have not loved her, You will not understand - Though earth holds many splendours, Wherever I may die, I know to what brown country My homing thoughts will fly.

Yesterday (Australia Day) was a day where I did everything Aussie. I mowed the lawn, played with the kid, went to the pub for lunch, had a beer, watched the cricket and had a BBQ dinner. The only thing that was missing was my Australia Day award got lost in the mail.
