Appears to be a Rim Cud by the Date on the Obverse side? What caused the notch marks on the Rim at the sides of the Cud? Any Thoughts? Thanks.

Looks like the sides were pressed in on the area where it looks like a rim Cud? Maybe just damage. You have the coin in hand, See it the center area is raised?
