These are way, way, way out of my price range (and probably yours too), but if you want to see the original leather case and insert for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Expo $50 gold pieces (round and octagonal), there are pictures with the listings at Stacks-Bowers.

Round: https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/l...leather-case
Octagonal: https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/l...leather-case

Even the quarter eagle is too rich for my blood, and I never expected to see the packaging for these.

Many years ago, I attended a view day for a major numismatic public auction in Sydney, conducted by Spinks Noble Numismatics.
I asked to view an example of the octagonal and round pair that was up for auction.

The pair coins sitting in the palm of my hand, handled, very carefully !

Almost four ounces of gold and spectacular. !
Rest in Peace

These two have been on my Wish List for quite some time. I suspect they will remain there a bit longer!

15 or so years ago, my local coin club made a trip to the Smithsonian Institution to see the portions of the National Numismatic Collection that were on display (the Lilly gold collection was outstanding and impressive - it filled a wall!).

We got the chance to go back into the vault room; Richard Doty himself was our guide. We were able to ask to see just about anything we wanted.

I asked him if I could see the SI's Pan-Pac $50 coins. I was soon holding one in each hand! They were raw coins, so I got to enjoy the full experience of holding them and examining them up close. It was an experience that I will never forget!

Thanks for posting the links!
