Dimetime, what's making this difficult is Machine Doubling with a doubled date. 2nd 8 appears to be Machine Doubling only. 1, 1st 8 and 7 doubled, leaning towards VAM 11. Would like to see close up of ear and denticle below the seven. Date is set slightly right of normal and slanted. Thanks.

MR the ear has no doubling. The only VAM that looks like mine is VAM 4a I think

Normal date position is 2 1/2 denticles from point of neck to denticles. Draw a line down from left side of top bar to left side of lower crossbar of 1 in date to denticles. Yours is almost 3. Slightly right of normal. Near date would be only 2 denticles from neck point. VAM 4 eliminated. Under the 7 in your pictures, there appears to be something between the denticles. Can't say for sure if this is a misplaced digit without a better closeup of that area. Sometimes it's a matter of eliminating all other Vams to find the one you have.

Dimetime, ear picture very good, no doubling. Denticles under seven still fuzzy. Althought there still appears to be something going on there, pictures just not clear enough to be conclusive. What are you using to take your photos?

Ok, lets try one more thing. If you have a loupe or even a magnifying glass, check the denticles below the 7. Is there extra metal close to the top of the denticles or are the bays inbetween clear?

By a matter of elimination, everything points to VAM 11.

Dimetime, I'd like you to go to Vamworld.com. On the home page, click on "discussion" at the top middle of page. Then click on item tittled "las this an 1887 VAM 9" Has some great pics of what to look for in denticles. Misplaced 7 is hard to spot unless you know what your looking for. I believe you'll feel more comfortable about yours being a VAM 11.
