Sometimes and old nickel is just an old nickel. Save it and plant the seed to a new you collector. Tell them why you like it. Relate what was happening when the coin was struck. And if you are old enough, you might relate what it could have bought through the years it spent in circulation.
1. Could have been used to make a phone call.
2. It could have been used as a tip for a waitress.
3. It may have bought 1/2 of a gallon of gasoline back then.
4. It could have bought a candy bar, or gum or with a few others it could have got the owner into a movie.
5. It could make a child then happy because he could buy this favorite treat, or even a toy back then.
6. It saw hard times during its life during World war II.
7. It could have bought a cup of coffee. (a meal then was less than 50 cents)
8. You could play a game of pool with another one.
9. With a couple of extra cents you could get a soda.

But today, it is yours to start your own collection. Take care of, because back when it was young, it was money. Not something you tossed into a parking lot.
