I spotted this today in a shop's "junk" silver bin. The terribly dark toning is probably what got it relegated there, and granted it's a very common issue, but I thought it was still rather a bit too nice to be on its way to the smelter.

I don't think dipping would help this one. Still a neat find for silver value though

I wasn't planning to. I think it's actually kind of cool looking in this blackened state.

Check your catalog but I think that is a coin from a 1919 Maundy set.

I really like the dark toning on this, I think it's rather beautiful.

Unlikely to be Maundy - made in huge numbers for circulation. Nice addition as long as it was cheap!

Coming as it did from the realm of the culls, it set me back a whole 75¢.

Finding that needle in a haystack or that buried treasure at the bottom of a dusty dirty junk box is such a great feeling. Congrats and enjoy that awesome feeling along with that really nice classic silver coin!

NOTE: I have seen this exact same blackish covering/"toning" many times on GB 3 & 6 pence silver coins from this specific time period. I have not accurately ID'd exactly what it is but I do know that it is atypical but harmlessly inert.
