Found this gem in a group of wheat rolls I bought on the cheap. There was a few very nice steel cent varieties and this is probably tied for the nicest. This variety is only listed in Stages B and C. I believe it to be an unlisted stage A because it lacks the obverse die cracks. What say you?

To strengthen the design they used to make a trough around the bust. You can see if on the mouth area to the bowtie. The correct term is channeling. And it was used when the master hub or master dies needed a touch up.
