Would Like Help With Belgium Coin. - Coin Community Forum

WorldCoinTreasures New Member United States 29 Posts	Posted 09/26/2008 2:40 pm Hi, The coin I have questions about in a Belgium KM# 117.1 or KM# 117.2. I can't tell if this coin is a 117.1 or 117.2 or whether its a Position A or position B coin. I read about the lettering with the crown and lettering with the star but I don't see what their talking about. Is the legend enough to tell its a 117.1? If so, then I really don't need to know what the edge says to determine the KM #? I am still lost on the Position A and Position B distinction. bart Pillar of the Community Belgium 651 Posts	Posted 09/28/2008 2:06 pm These coins are indeed quite difficult to understand: first you have to look at the obverse: the legends can be BELGIE BELGIQUE (Dutch legends first= KM#117) or BELGIQUE BELGIE (French legends first = KM#116) You have KM#117, Dutch legends first. Then you look at the edge: it is a milled edge with the same words BELGIE BELGIQUE as edge lettering. These words are separated by a crown (=KM#117.1) or a star (=KM#117.2). Most chance your coin is KM#117.2, with a star separating the edge lettering BELGIE BELGIQUE. There is also the positions: the definition is as follows: when you put the coin on a table with the denomination (in this case the lion with 5FR) visible, look at the edge lettering. If it is upright, your coin has position A. If it's upside down, your coin has position B. Report this Post to the Staff
