I picked up a 1917 Newfoundland 50-cent piece today and I'm looking for more information on it. Were there die problems with these coins? It seems there are cud-like, or possible die breaks, stretching from the left-bottom of the effigy up through the EOR of Georgivs, also affecting the DE of DEI.

Also, how can I differentiate between 120 beads and 132 beads on the 1973 RMCP quarter?

Thanks.

Hi Florida.

I don't know what the differences in the NFLD. coins would be (though I should learn since I have lots) But for the 1973 quarter I know some. A lot of people refer to them as large beads and small beads varieties but it is actually a large bust and small bust variety difference.
With the large bust variety there are more beads placed closer to the rim of the coin, and with the small bust there are less beads placed further from the rim. I am attaching a link to a good site than can help you find other Canadian coin info. Hope that helps.

That's a very nice photo showing the differences of the large and small bust varieties!

Thanks, malissa, for the info and the site is wonderful!

P.S. What's a fair price to pay for common, circulated, Canadian silver coins?
