Are there different varieties for the reeded edge years for the Capped Bust half series just like the Overton varieties of the prior Lettered Edge years?

Nice coin, but that dented rim at 1:00 on the obverse is kinda distracting. I'm surprised it straight graded.

Yeah I didn't notice the rim "bumps", theres 3 , when I bought it. They're close to the prongs and somewhat hidden. Kinda killed it for me when I received it! It has gorgeous color though. This is my 1st reeded edge and when I went to look for a die marriage or variety they ended at 1836! Didn't know that!

No they didn't end, it's just a different book. There are 16 varieties in 1838. Can't be sure but I think it might be a GR-3. And with those rim bumps it shouldn't have straight graded.

@Condor101, anything online that I can look at? I can't seen to find anything. Or is there only a book? And yes, the rim dings are killin me! Lol! Wish I would have noticed before I bought it. Live and learn I guess! I really am curious how/why NGC straight graded it? So weird some of the decisions these TPG's make with certain coins.

Been that way a long time. 99% of us that would send THAT coin in would get it back in a Details holder.

Is it possible this coin would have graded a point or 2 higher but instead of "details" slabbing it they knocked it down a few points and straight graded it? That's my guess. It does look really nice in person and has really nice color.
