I know the listed double dies for this quarter are mainly in the main and under the saddle horn. Is it possible this is a new variety?

Looks like Machine Doubling. Any where else affected like this? The DDRs are more on the other end of the horse:

More towards the center. Also note, the DDR is raised form the field and not part of the normal design, like MD would show like on your coin.

Well it happens. Sometimes it will affect one area or on the opposite side it will affect more. Machine Doubling doesn't follow rules, it just happens.

But coop, not all of the listings look like the examples you provided. Take a look at these:
Wddr-003/004. What's different other than being on the opposite side of the coin?
