1970 D LMC Another Rim Question

I know about misaligned dies and what they do to a rim, but what causes what is going on with this one? The rim is actually indented, like a trench?

I think it is a very thin fin that flatten probably when it was put into a roll. (A tilted die issue)

Well if it was a 1973 cent, they were all like that with the high rims. The the fold over maybe causing the edge to look thicker:

Note the edge on this dime. One side is taller than the other. Take a look. Again the fin is causing this. On this coin, the fin has not been flattened.
