Just curious - I already found a brown 2008 Lincoln Memorial cent. I wondered how it got brown in less than 7 months of circulation. If I find the coin, I'll post a pic.
Left on the ground outside or exposed to other harsh environmental circumstances a red copper based coin can turn brown in a matter of days. The problem has always been reversing that effect...nothing found yet that works without leaving signs.
I agree with what is said here. I did a middle school experiment to see how fast a LMC could go from bright red to a dull brown when exposed to various elements. Outside, it completely changed in a matter of a month. So depending on conditions this doesn't surprise me at all.
