I have seen this a lot-even in the CCF. People give the weight of an item (or maybe not) and include a picture of the item on the scale with the weight reading on the scale.
Why not just state the weight? By using the tare feature, it is very simple to have a scale show any arbitrarily low reading. To show high, put something under the coin or invisible in the picture. So the reading on the scale proves nothing on a photograph.
Especially in the CCF, if you are not selling the coin it is a safe assumption that you are giving the actual reading on the scale.
I have always found this to be quite odd.
