Here are some shots of a recent find. It's an 1891-O VAM 1A2 and is characterized by an 'E' die clash on the reverse really stands out ( VAM 1A), a subsequent clash leaves a raised dome just above the left wreath of lady liberty's eye ( VAM 1A2) and the third ( VAM 1A3 - no pictures) this has a large raised vertical die break to the left of the raised dome.

Great pick up Dave. This coin has always made me wonder how it received a VAM 1 designation. There is no mention of date position for the VAM 1, but I would assume it to be the normal 2 1/2 denticles. Reverse of VAM 1 clearly states mintmark centered and upright. Check yours, date set right of normal, mint mark set high and left. ?

Exactly. It appears even higher than those designated as "O set high", i.e. V16, and is set left. The date is 2 1/2 denticles.

Dave, mine is in a safety deposit box at the bank. Reverse is just the same. Don't remember the date position. You might want to put this up on Vamworld and see what fellas have to say about it.

It's already there along with 3 21-D's (two R7's and an R6). Now I've blown my secret identity.
