Assistant Finds Adviser and Treasure Curator for Iron Age and Roman coins Portable Antiquities and Treasure (Dept. of Learning and National Partnerships) The Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) was created in England in 1997 to record archaeological material found by members of the public. Coinage forms the single largest class of object and with more than 300,000 ancient coins to date represents an unparalleled dataset with the potential to change our perceptions of the ancient British landscape. Our challenge is how to sensibly achieve this and I hope to present some preliminary conclusions that demonstrate the coins at work!
