Hi everyone (hope I've put this in the right place !!) I inherited my fathers pre decimal coins in 1975 when I was 14. Right up until his death, my Dad constantly carried the same Crown in his pocket, he said it was so no one could ever say he was broke (he was found on the streets of Birmingham when he was 7 and put in an orphanage until he could work at 14 )
I well remember the change over to decimalisation.....how confusing it was !!
Later on my eldest brother had a job converting and modernising empty houses for a while and, when he found coins under the floor boards, he would pass them on to me, he too has since passed away.
So as you can imagine, my coins are very sentimental to me. They will be passed on to one of my Grandaughters.
BUT I have also added to them myself over the years.
I am not a coin collector as such, I am more a pre decimal hoarder ! ( and a decimal one, if I like the look of it ! )
I need to ask you all a question about a coin I found in my change 30 years or more ago, but I did not want to just dive in and ask, without first introducing myself, it would be disrespectable to you all.
Soooo I'd like to say hello from myself, Feoh, in Staffordshire (very close to the famous hoard !!, and within the same walls as my own, absolutely - not - famous ,hoard !! )

Thank You Dorado and to yourself too owatchman

Also Thank You NumisRob I faced decimalisation in total denial , convinced it wouldn't last and that we would have to convert back to "normal money". I saved up my pocket money and bought a chrome ID bracelet which was marked up at 2/6 and 12 1/2p , I gave him 2/6, I didn't have any new money
One day, I finally had to admit defeat, when I got on the bus with my 3d bit, I was informed that they were no longer accepting 'old money', so a kind woman swapped it for me, neither of us knew what what my 3d bit was worth in "new money". I think she gave me 3 new pence, so I reckon I owe her money !

Stories of peoples' experience with decimalization would make an interesting thread. In Canada we "decimalized" in 1858 so needless to say it was before my time.

Thank You Oriole I'm glad you weren't there for your country's 1858 decimalisation as you wouldn't have just made me laugh ! You're right, it would make for a good, interesting thread ! Regarding your name (great !) I too like to photograph birds and watch them, nature and wildlife is my passion
