Hi everyone,

I found a William of Orange sliver shilling when digging foundations in my garden. Could somebody please give me an indication of its value? I have attached some photos.
Thanks very much.
James

Please give us the date. It is on the reverse side, split by the English shield. SHould be 169something.

Hi all, I think it's 1698. Unfortunately there's a mark on the 8 probably from the shovel when I dug it up. It would appear to be an 8 but I'm not 100% sure.

NGC world coin catalogue lists 2 types for that year. In VG they are listed at $125 and $75. Yours is worse than VG. At least that gives you an idea. A nice find from your garden, in any case.

Much more valuable to you is that you found it in your own garden.

There is no way possible that a 1698 William 111 shilling would be found in an Australian garden!
The Brits didn't get here until 1788.

Thanks for the reply. It's an interesting find from an English garden and a cottage that was built in the 1800's. Going to keep it and probably mount it for the family to see. James

I figured that you may do something like that with it.
