1927 Nickle 2 Very Different "7" Varieties

tone2tone Valued Member Canada 85 Posts	Posted 12/09/2019 05:59 am Well lay me down and call me Dusty...I was going through a few photos I took a while back with my microscope and I had to rub my eyes a few times...Anyone know much about this? It looks like the 927 are double stamped? But look at those "7"'s That is not even close to being the same 7..please enlighten me.. Report this Post to the Staff

Could be a filled die like don in nmkt said but those digits do look oddly thicker than the top coin along with the missing point of the 7. JohnWayne007 Pillar of the Community Canada 1186 Posts	Posted 12/09/2019 12:27 pm John100, although I agree with most of what you said you have to admit the missing part of that 7 wasn't warn down by circulation imo... filled die maybe, but it looks too clean to just be circulation wear. I'm obviously no expert though and I'm sure others will chime in but if nobody bothers to look at circulation coins than nobody will ever know. Although small things like this might not be rare or something a collector would not typically care for or want, it does help others visually see what is and is not worth the time for learning purposes. Just my humble opinion. john100 Pillar of the Community Canada 5324 Posts	Posted 12/09/2019 1:08 pm So at best the bottom of the seven is a partial filled or worn die, the point I am trying to get across these minor variations are in all circulating coins because they are made to just ok standards. That is why for 90 years in this coin no one has noted this variety. Report this Post to the Staff
tone2tone Valued Member Canada 85 Posts	Posted 12/09/2019 1:18 pm It doesn't seem that worn compared to a lot of circulated 1927's..The dots are all showing on the cross up the crown and the jewels on the band are still able to be observed.
