= Curious as to what everyone mainly looks for to know if a coin has been cleaned or nor. I know some are obvious but I'd like to here the differences in techniques. Thanks, JIM

Often the telltale signs are just having an "unhealthy" or "unnatural whiteness" for the grade. Being just too clean and dull looking is a dead giveaway. This is just one of those things that you have to really see to get a feel for.

If the coin looks too clean for the grade or has buff marks I will pass on it.

If the cleaning is so subtle to the point I need a microscope to see it then I don't care. I will add the coin to my collection in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the input so far. I'm posting a Morgan that I had just to get a idea of cleaning or not (as I am fairly new to this). It has some shadowing around the raised areas (letters / numbers...etc) Would this be from cleaning or just natural condition for a circulated coin?

Something doesn't look right with that coin but it could just be the a pixel image.
Any chance of a close-up shot?

Had to go through some e-bay archives but here is the best pic describing what I mean. (darkness or shadowing around the date).
