A little story I would like to share with the community ;
When I was a kid just before I started to collect coins ( 1959,1960 )I had stayed over my Aunt & Uncles house for the weekend . I was sitting and laying on the couch and I lost my lucky charm that my cousin had given me . I said to myself maybe it fell down in between the back and the seat
( no cushions then ). Reaching down in there with my hand I found all kinds of things including coins . Dimes, Quarters and even a half dollar ,all 90% silver . Long story short ,whenever I went to their house I always looked for more coins . Didn't mean anything to me at the time because the mint kept producing 90% silver until 1965 when they changed over to the clad crap . If I only knew . On another note; My father who was an upholster mostly all his life would find a lot of change when he ripped open the backs of the sofas ,The ones with no cushions . I remember he once found a $5 gold piece and Standing Liberty quarters just to name a few old coins .

I found a gold Turkey 25 Kurus 1.75 gram bullion coin embedded in the gold colored carpet of the home we bought, about two years after moving in.
That was in 1986. The coin has been in my collection ever since.

Thanks guys , If you ever come across any real OLD sofas , stick your hand in there ,you'll never know what you might find . Can you imagine what you'll find in the sofas and couches of all the antique stores .

I salvaged an old 40s sofa from our local city hall staff room.It is an uncomfortable low soft old beast.It has finally come to the point where I no longer use it.Before I junk it I intend to cut the back and sides near the bottom frame and see what treasures it holds.I've had good success finding coins in much newer discarded sofas.

Excellent! I used to do the same at my grandparents home back in the late 1970's when I was a teen. Most of their furniture dated back to the 50's or earlier. I also mined a few silver coins from those.

Another good place was the pick-a-part auto scrap yards (back when you took your own tools into the junkyard) when I was wrenching on my hotrods...reach under the seats of 70's and earlier cars and trucks also produced a few silvers from time to time.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors...
Roll hunting since '77
Dirt fishing since '72

I always check sofas and armchairs when I'm staying in hotels. I found a £2 coin once!

My dad used to use the back seat of his Pontiac as a piggy bank. He learned that is not a good idea after he took it in for repairs. He learned later that the auto shop had cleaned out all the coins that had been deposited under the cushion.

down here we can only stick hands down into furniture with a light of some kind guiding the hand— scorpions! once stung, twice shy..

..but I concur, old furniture & cars are great places to score loose change/money.
