Help please on grading—are pics good enough for opinion? Also when researching I notice in the 20 franc series(rooster and angel) the values about the same from mintages of 8mil through 400,000-i would think with such a rarity diff the values would be considerably different.

I don't think that dates are collected as much for some of these series, so not so much of a price difference for the rarer dates.

The original Marianne/Rooster 20 francs was minted in two series. The second series was reminted so for continuity I will henceforth call this the third series.

First Series: 1899 to 1906, KM# 847, Edge Lettering: DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANC
Second Series: 1906 to 1914, KM# 857, Edge Lettering: LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE
Third Series: 1907 to 1914, KM# 857, Edge Lettering: LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE. Reminted in 1921 and again since 1948.

Is there anything distinguishing or unique about the third series? Yes. Yes there is.

#1 The most important characteristic is the reddish aspect of the coins, because of the presence of more copper in them.

#2 They are not fakes, as officially minted with the original dies, but copies. They look sharper than the "originals".

#3 In summary, third series coins tend to be in excellent condition, the metal looks more red than yellow, and the purity of gold varies from 900.39 to 902.63.

TWO FACTS ABOUT ROOSTERS THAT MIGHT COME IN HANDY:

#1 There are no remints nor restrikes of the original 10 francs Roosters.

#2 20 francs Roosters dated 1915 are third-party counterfeits.

#3 1906 mintage includes both edge types; DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE and LEBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE.
