Great adds recently. Notgeld always interest me. Not an area I will dip a toe in though due to the fact I think once you dabble it may become an obsession. So many varieties and history to go with each.

uhmmmmm.....notgeld collecting.....once you start you don't look back! You can go is so many different directions with your collection - they are just brilliant for collectors! What about this piece, made from gold coloured foil Examples like this are very fragile and must have been sort of commemorative issues as they wouldn't be used in trade/transactions of course.

1 Shalomi, this was a banknote/token issued in Lithuania, February 2002, to remember 60 years since the establishment of the Jewish Ghetto in Vilnius, Lithuania. (1943-2003) Denominations were issued in 1, 2, 5, 20, 50 & 100 Shalomi.

An very unusual uncut sheet of wertbestaendige notgeld banknotes made of silk: Usually, the sheet would be cut into pieces that consisted of the front and back of the note..........and then they would have been folded in half and sewn together to form the 1 banknote. (So there are the makings of 9 banknotes here in reality)

Here is an extremely 'odd' banknote item: Yep - a waistcoat made from the silk banknote 100m pieces. Bet you weren't expecting that?

@gumer - nice piece. It is from a set of 20 pieces, 10 black and 10 brown. The image of the 'defecating donkey' is one that appears on a few notgeld issues. One of the fairytales by the Brothers Grimm, was 'The Wishing Table, the Golden Donkey and the Cudgel in the Sack'. Three brothers get hold of magical items, the second of which is a donkey which, upon the command "Bricklebit!", dispenses gold coins from its mouth and anus........a butt with a golden ass, indeed!!

Here are further pieces featuring the 'defecating donkey' or 'golden ass'. They are from Wittgensdorf:

This is quite unusual! A banknote, originally issued in Offenburg, but later revalued with OVP and a different town that then used it - Kahla!! I love all the different things you can find within the notgeld arena............fabulous!

One can see that the original 5m note from Offenburg was from 1918 (ok - you just see a valid until date of Feb 1919) and then the 500,000m OVP from Kahla with a date of '20 August 1923'
