Erm...not very good with Buffalo nickels.

Lower end of VF, maybe VF - 20 or 25

If so then you did spectacular, like actually. That's a very VERY good buy.

Retail Value on Greysheet is $81 - $88

some strange black spots on both sides. probably remnants of a cleaning. grade wise I have it at VF25 but it could possible pull a details designation due to these. maybe an acetone bath can clean them up

I'm at VF-25 as well. Obverse spotting detracts considerably. Very possibly cleaned.

I forgot to say that and I agree.

There is definitely some spotting which could get it a details grade.
Rest in Peace

Would not be my first choice for a VF set. Price reflects lack of curb appeal. Guessing it's been cleaned.

Decent roll of the dice. It all depends on whether the numismatic leprosy is on the surface or has caused pitting. If this is just surface junk and comes off with an acetone swim, you did very well. If it is damaging corrosion, you broke even. I don't think you are underwater on this one, regardless.

Disregarding the spotting, your coin has a pretty decent strike for a 1924-D, and evenly matched MDS die pairing. The obverse would come in at VF-30 and the reverse at VF-25.

If you do send it for a swim, post the "after" pics, please!

A soft strike, VF-25 straight grade.
