HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL !...

Well here's my first purchase of 2020....
A Marcus Aurelius Sestertius..I realy like the style of it!
This coin I assume was minted to commemorate the victory over the Marcomanni in late AD171 when the Germanic invaders were defeated and evicted from Roman territory...
Marcus-Aurelius...big-And-Small.

Marcus Aurelius. AD 161-180. Æ Sestertius. Rome mint. Struck AD 171...(32mm, 24.68 g)
Obv. Laureate head right, IMP M ANTONINVS AVG TRP XXV
Rev. Fides standing left, holding Victory and standard, FIDES EXERCITVVM COS III SC
RIC III 998

To go with it my little Denarius (one of my first)

Marcus Aurelius denarius.Rome AD 161-162....18MM....2.55gr
Obverse....IMP M AVREL ANTONINVS AVG, bare head right
Reverse... PROV DEOR TR P XVI COS III, Providentia standing facing, head left, holding globe and cornucopiae.
RIC#50 RSC 519.
Marcus-Aurelius...big-And-Small.

Happy New Year Paul.

These are really nice coins. I especially like the Sestertius. Great detail for such a large bronze.

Thanks for the comments guys!...

It seems this type is quite scarce although there is an example on wildwinds.

Great chunky bronze there, Paul! Always nice when a somewhat blind purchase turns out to be scarce or rare!

These big bronzes are addicting... I am toying with doing a sestertius run myself

Thanks Steve!...
Yep these are really addictive but the problem as you know, the more detail, the more $'s.....
Photos of big bronzes IMO never give them full justice, it's when you have them in your hand that you realise WOW what a coin!........Paul

Just thought I'd update the attribution of the OP coin....
Its just been brought to my attention by a fellow collector (Thank you) that this is RIC-997, as the bust is laureate and draped unlike the just laureate headed example on wildwinds RIC-998 which means quite a rare variety....I hasten to add the scarcity of the coin wasn't the reason I acquired it, I just loved the portrait, so an added bonus...Paul

Edit....It gets better! Also the OP coin is a double die match to the only example in the British Museum Collection...(Thanks again RC)
