Not my area of collecting, at the moment, but have been following your posts and have been finding them very interesting...
To my untrained eye this is a really nice looking coin, really like the reverse..
Great idea putting the scale at the bottom of the photo!
Thanks for sharing ...

So then it would seem the old saw about horseshoes being good luck must be true... Very nice addition to your collection!

ey mud ... maybe if we are lucky an arrowhead which is even older, circa 500 A.D., but not much interest on coincommunity
(Edit: Don't know how I lost half of that post, but it was meant to be a joke about not finding anything other than mud where I live).

Arrowheads are also great! Artifacts can say a lot more about the history of a settlement or region. Mud on the other hand can be very interesting as well: Archaeobotanists collect mud from the excavation site to reconstruct the ancient environment. The mud is sieved (2mm,1mm & 0,5mm) and the sieved soil is viewed under the stereo microscope, where the seeds and pollen are identified.

I really love it when an ancient coin can be found "in situ". Thanks a lot for sharing this great "discovery" story with the pictures Archeo1982 Note also the rainbow in the sky. Maybe that Obole was your "pot of gold at the end of that rainbow" Squire

Quote: I want to sell a few of the Carolingians. @Archeo1982, as you may know we have a marketplace on CCF. Here is a link to that area: http://goccf.com/f/159I, for one, will be interested in seeing what you are deciding to put there.
