How on earth could anyone tell it was cleaned or "retoned"? Just curious? This coin collecting is disappointing as you know what. Whenever I find a really nice coin it get crapped on. Talk about a tough crowd. I didn't clean it and pretty sure my grandpaw didn't dip it, who had it probably since 1942. I was just sharing it to share and maybe curious of grade

@Fender79,

This is only my opinion, looking at the reverse, it appears what is left of some spotted area that didn't rinse off properly after dipping, thereby leaving that dull luster area. It could also be the way where it is kept. I'm not asking anyone or you to agree with my analysis, not here to offend your coins.
Rest in Peace

The truth is your coin's skin looks a little off .In my opinion It hasn't been cleaned or dipped . Could be an environment thing of how the coin was stored all those years . Nice coin as far as wear goes ,not FB . AU-55 .

whether the coin was improperly cleaned, improperly stored or grades straight the coin is worth about $4. the fact that it was passed down is more important for sentimental reasons
