Does anyone have tips for taking pictures of coins that are inset into a surface, like in a mint collection?

Here's a sample of one I took using the same methods as the other pictures (which worked very well).

Hi Rogers

sorry for the delay in responding ,but like a good numismatist I did not have examples of slabbed coins in my gallery .

coin shots through slab plastic is a little tough but with the right set up and some patience they turn out pretty good .

In order to get reasonable photo's of coins in slabs through the plastic you have to difuse the light ,, I use a simple set up so I just tape a sheet of white copy paper over my light sources .

when you do this try and stay about 5 inches from the target to allow all the light you can into the photo but difused (without glare ).

I just took this photo and did not set up on my tripod or copy stand I hand held the camera so I could get a good idea of the light I was getting .

difused light 5 inches from target .
