It doesn't look right to me. Why are the fields so grainy?

I think the graininess is just the toning. The pics are making it look worse than it is. But I am worried about the possibility of an old cleaning under that toning.

Cleaning or not it's a nice coin IMO. Nice details. -CH27

I really like the first two photos. Great detail on her, probably an old cleaning with the darkness around the stars.

Plenty of detail that's for sure , but I have to say very slight wear . AU-58+++ A virtual slider unc. Agree possible old cleaning . Dose not warrant a details grade .

Worth having graded, I'd say.

Great strike with hardly any wear, yet it looks well circulated. Probably an old cleaning. Given the lack of luster, I'd say AU-53, but it would be much higher based on wear alone.

Sweet coin, one of my favorite designs. I see virtually next to no wear or rub on this coin, I'm thinking from these pics there could be a MS-62 under the toning and dirt. If it were me, I might have it make a visit to NCS at NGC for conservation.

I've always thought AU 55, with a slight chance at 58. Not bad for a coin that the auctioneer had listed as XF. This is the one auctioneer I've run into that had a tendency to under grade. Unfortunately they have gone out of biz now. Although I sometimes made the hour drive, I didn't for this auction. Negative 40 wind chill kept me home and buying from my couch. I think the bad weather kept a lot of buyers away. So I got what I'd hoped would be a really good deal. But the pics they took weren't the greatest so I was pretty nervous until I got it.
I know the toning isn't the prettiest Ive seen. But I like toning in general. I like the way this toning makes the details pop. I know since the GSA Morgans came out, and since dipping has gotten more prevalent, the industry has trended towards the brilliant white coins. But I like a 100 year old coin to look like it's been around 100 years. So I don't think I will conserve this one. I did give it an acetone bath to take off any oils. And hopefully keep the toning as it is.

I think my only concern are the black spots around ERTY. pitting/corrosion or just surface gunk that was not removed when it was cleaned? not a fan of the toning but the details are there that represents an AU55 or 58 grade but imo the overall eye appeal would reduce that a few points. for AU58 I like to see nice clean fields or at least toning that has some eye appeal

Nice AU-58. There is virtually no wear on this one.
