Welcome to the 1800s.

Here is one of my FINEST pieces

This is a silver Ruble of Nicholas II dated 1899 and in Fine condition - one of my favourite coins and it is surprisingly thick compared to most coins of this era.

Seems a bit muted already by the beautiful GOLD 10 Rubles shown above, that coin is a stunner.

I only have 3 coins for 1899 good enough to show (I will save you the worn old pennies and stained scrap silver a bit more).

Half Crowns are another story!

My 2nd of 3 coins (And the third is nothing to write home about)

is the HALF CROWN, a type of coin I barely notice - I swear I have no interest in these

This one is a bit nicer than my 1900 and 1901 coins and would grade near fine, apart from the black wear slash, its a fairly decent coin with some more detail on the very elaborate design.

Sadly there are no Halfcrowns from me for 1898 and my 1897 piece is a half crown but not as we know them.

Another great start to the year! Pepactonius - love the Russian gold!

The 1899 penny is a change find from early 1971. Victorian pennies could still be found in circulation right up to decimalisation. Everyone called the 1860-94 issue "Bun Pennies", and they were usually worn almost flat. Those issued from 1895-1901 often turned up in about VG. I remember my schoolteacher and some older adults at the time calling them "Widow of Windsor" pennies, but I've never seen that expression in any coin calalog and I haven't heard anyone use it for years!
