Welcome to the 1860s Here is my first and probably best coin for the decade. A big Peruvian silver sol. This one has the Roman 1 version. Found in the same junk collection as the 1870 Chilean 50 cents. After this expect holed European silver and worn copper everything off me.

Interesting Uhlhorn piece, Arkie! Sweden 1869, 10 francs/1 carolin. 1868-72 Sweden minted 10 francs coins according to the French gold franc standard. This is the only time Sweden has minted coins with denomination in francs. They were to be used as trade coins for the trade with France and other Latin Monetary Union countries. Sweden was never member of the LMU, but influential merchants and bankers worked in that direction. The coin was a result of that lobbying (the alternative denomination 1 carolin was probably intended to flatter the Swedish king, whose name was Carl - Carolus in Latin). The French defeat in the Franco-Prussian war 1870-71 was one factor that made the idea seem less attractive and instead Sweden joined forces with Denmark and Norway in the Scandinavian Monetary Union in 1873/75.
