Let's do 1854, a few good selections.

The arrows were placed at the date on Liberty Seated coinage starting in 1853 to indicate that the coin's weight had been reduced (from 2.67g to 2.43g on dimes, e.g.); this continued from 1853-1855, and again in 1873-1874.
