Yes found Bronte's mistake interesting, then again she was born in the late 1810s and probably only knew the sovereign, unless she knew someone old with a good memory or a lot of money (Being in Yorkshire and the daughters of a vicar - guineas/sovereigns were probably rarely seen). So I'll have to make do with copper! Farthing: Halfpenny: Penny: As with Princetane, my 1854 is my best Victorian copper penny. I agree that these copper coins are notorious for pitting: I've found some truly awful specimens with my metal detector!
