@Numis-Northerner I think he was referring to the one I posted. It's worn in some places and some letters are not that clear. The Trojak tdziema posted is in a way better condition than VF

France 1584, 1 franc, Henry III, Toulouse (M).  Henry III reformed the French monetary system and introduced the ecu and franc as denominations with fixed values of 60 respectively 20 sous tournois. The livre as money of account was abandoned, together with the system of the crown assigning values to various coins as it saw fit from time to time, a system that repeatedly led to troublesome inflation. 1 and ½ ecus were gold coins and 1 franc (= 1/3 ecu) was the largest silver coin (the largest coin, in fact, with its 35 mm diameter). The reform lasted until 1602, then Henry IV decided to go back to the livre, with its (for the crown) useful flexibility. The coin uses double mint marks: "M" is the official letter for the Toulouse mint since 1540, but the old system of "secret points" is used in parallel. Hence the point below the 5th letter of the inscriptions on both sides of the coin, the position for Toulouse in the old system. A note about Henry: As the inscription FRANCiae ET POLoniae REX reveals, he considered himself king not only of France but also of Poland. That was true during 1573-75, at which point the Poles elected another monarch (as we have seen on some coins here) as a result of Henry's reluctance to reside in Poland. But he kept the title anyway. |

(15)85 - 1/2 Stüber - Jülich-Kleve-Berg Wilhelm V for Rudolf II, Habsburg Holy Roman Emperor Saurma. 1637 / Noss 282 Only ~36k minted for 1585. 1/2 St. was equal to 1/74 Thaler. Rudolf II's brother and successor, Matthias, was the last Holy Roman Emperor prior to the Thirty Years' War. Wilhelm V is probably not as well known as his elder sister Anna von Kleve (Anne of Cleves), 4th wife of Henry VIII.
