As referenced by @jbuck, I have a Double Briquet from the Netherlands Duchy of Brabant (Antwerp mint) dated AD 1481. The four-digit date is on the reverse and uses pretty recognizable forms with the exception of the archaic number four. I recommend using @jbuck's link above to check out some of the conversation from @gal and @tdz relating to this coin.   "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."

@Collects82, Just a small correction, this is not Central Asia, but Crimean Khanate - a Crimean Tatar state that succeeded the empire of the Golden Horde:)
Qirk-Yer is modern day Chufut-Kale situated in Crimea not far from Bakhchisaray.

1272 silver penny sounds fascinating. I only have a few 13th century coins and none of them are datable to a year.
IIRC my next possible entries are in the 1360s, though I did buy one coin supposedly dating to a particular year in the 1450s where I wasn't able to figure out where the date was (I even looked at other examples on Zeno and it didn't help).

For 1479 I will make it three in a row of same type. I think the comment has been made here before that these are popular for early dated coin collectors because enormous numbers (for a coin of this size) were struck, and (relatively) large numbers have survived. In Mary's reign (1477-1481) 8 million were produced, and in the first four years of Philip's reign (1482-1485) another 2 million:   |

Yes thx to @tdz for keeping us moving along! I have this Gros from the Belgian County of Flanders (Bruges mint) dated AD 1479. I really like the "swoopy" design of the number 9. Kinda looks like the font used by Jefferson Airplane.   "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."
