It was the first issue of Halfcrowns and Florins in Ireland since 1943 and of course the first in Cupronickel.

A tiny aluminium coin, that has held up well for nearly 70 years!

Starting in 1950, I will be cutting down to 4 coins a year at most.

Common as dirt in Fine condition, scarce as hens teeth in EF - AU like this one. You guys are really lucky - it only arrived this week!

This is the earlier Type 1, Wide date variety.

Similar designs appeared in 1949, but with a different inscription. These were reconstruction coins of the new Deutschmark started in 1948.

Some like the one mark were dated 1950 until the early 1960s.

Initially 1 Mark was the top coin and then 5 Mark silver coins a year later and 2 Marks not until the late 60s.

These coins were nickel and brass (Also copper 1 and 2Pfg) and the designs lasted through to 2001!

1950 France 20 francs. This aluminium-bronze coin was introduced this year along with similar 10F and 50F coins. By 1950 the French franc was worth only about one-fiftieth of its 1914 value. 20-franc coins were made of gold until 1914 and then were large silver coins from 1929-39.

A 1950 British sixpence, a cute coin and when we get to 1948, you will see the cypher and inscription get more elaborate.
