I came across someone with a set of four 1990 California Gold coins with a large and small image on a bear on one side and the "great seal of California" on the reverse. The "mint mark" is cc. They are identified as 1, 1/2, 1/4 and 1/10 oz .9999 fine.

Can anyone provide me with any information on these coins ?

Thanks

Whatever you have, they were not issued by the US Mint. Original California fractionals from the 1850s/60s are worth quite a bit but many reproductions have been created over the years and I am sure that the number of authentic Cal gold fractionals is dwarfed by the number of knock-offs. If they have a bear, they are not even a real reproduction because none of the genuine Cal golds had a bear but many of the knock-offs do have one. If they are truly made of gold, then the only value they would have would be for 1.85oz of gold which is currently about $1500.

BTW,

Thanks for you reply.

These are not from the 1850s/60s.

Supposedly these are commemorative gold coins issued with authorization by the State of California Department of General Services in the 1990, 1991 etc period based on the California government code section 7551-7556. However, until I saw these, I had never seen nor heard of them.

Rest in Peace
