Yes, its a small date, but it has to also be a D to be worth anything.

Yes. Weight? (3.11G =copper, 2.5=G Zinc) These are the common ones.

Mine weighs 3.11g, so the only D is the expensive one, why not the Philadelphia or s or w mint could've made the same mistake leaving the planchet in?

The Philadelphia mint produced over 10 billion small date copper cents, so it wasn't an accident. The 1982 D small date one is the only one that's valuable because its the only one that didn't produce copper cents at all, unlike the other mints and date varieties.

Because they didn't strike any of the small date copper cents from Denver. Only one known. (Probably a mint employee created one and tossed it into the bin?

The 1982 Denver small date copper WAS made, but only one found SO FAR, so keep looking!

So, now you know what the small date looks like, you'll see them all the time... the search for more small date D coppers continues, you never know!
