The new coin in my collection - wonderful 27g of silver It's 8 reales from Mexico, minted in 1801 in the Mexico City Mint.

Av. CAROLUS IIII DEI GRATIA 1806 "Charles IV by the Grace of God, 1801." Right profile of Charles III in soldier's dress with laurel wreath
Rv. HISPAN[IARUM] ET IND[IARUM] REX M[EXICANUS] 8 R[EALES] T H"King of the Spains and the Indies, Mexico [City Mint], 8 Reales." Crowned Spanish arms between the Pillars of Hercules adorned with PLVS VLTRA motto

Apparently a quite high grade despite the cleaning. Would it be possible for you to show us some pics of the edges?

Nice 8 to start off with, be careful, collecting Spanish Colonial 8 Reales can be very addicting.

I agree that collecting 8s can be addictive, but it is also a dangerous game to play due to all of the counterfeits out there today.
