wondering which one this is? small or large 8?

also, there is some doubling on the 8 (marked in red), is this an 8/8? or just a touched up die?

I agree small 8
Be wary when using Charlton's to identify this variety, for some reason recent editions have a mixup of pictures, earlier editions had it right.
Just remember bow tie goes with large 8, small 8 goes with cross over bow tie.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...
