Hi, cldague. Looks like MD to me. Both sides of your MM has that look-alike doubling possibly caused by die movement?....just my newbie's mind thinking and eyes seeing... the experts can weigh in for better input... enjoy the hobby....
Looks like field removal from polishing. It just altered the outline of the mintmark. Not a RPM. Note the shape of the mintmark? It extends beyond the mintmark on all sides. If it were a RPM, then you would see if altered not on both sides of the mintmark. There is also a lot of circulation wear/flattening on the coin. Note the shape of the RPM-001: http://www.varietyvista.com/02a%20L...9DRPM001.htm Note the lighter circulated (stage A) coin with the Circulated example. (stage B on this site)
