I've discovered one of my 1882 H large cents has an unusual issue above queen Victoria's head. In the words "Dei Gratia" there are some impressions similar to the reeds above between the letter I and G. Also within the letter E on Dei is a strange mark. Looking higher on upper edge of the coin from the letter G in Gratia, I can see rounded impressions moving right. Wondering if anyone can explain what this is? Is it from another coin being stamped onto it? I'm assuming this is quite common on coins...simply because everything I find on my coins is common! Thanks for any input and education here. Pls show a photo of the complete Obverse and Reverse. Are the "impressions" raised or inset? Are the anomalies with the E & I recessed or raised? Tks

Sorry guys. New to this. I figured it was best to zoom in on the particular area in question. I'll get some complete pics ASAP.
The areas around the E and I are inset. The section along the top edge of the coin actually looks like a combination of both raised and inset.

Will try to get some better photos tomorrow. The lighting is brutal here right now.

Looks like damage to me,.. hard to tell with those photos.

I most certainly appreciate comments and opinions as you guys have a lot more experience than me with this stuff. I'm going to go out on a limb here though and say this definitely isn't damage....and yes, the photos are bad, apparently I need to join a photography forum as well.

The only possible idea I can see of an underlying coin is the three teeth between DEI and GRATIA, and that could be die damage and a bit of grease.
The E and I of DEI seem to have suffered damage, probably die damage as some of it is raised.
There seems to be a lot of post minting damage to the edge. Is there a bit of solder under the ADA of CANADA?
I wonder whether the coin has been fixed in a mount, and perhaps removed particularly carelessly.

I think that it's all post-mint damage, since the only parts that are not recessed is on the edge where metal has been displaced.
