AU details. it may have been cleaned but I don't think that would be enough to details this coin. the rim ding on the reverse and particularly the scratch under STATES which is displacing metal will

aren't we all going to get schooled again if fortcollins chimes in with an UNC grade when what we are seeing as possible wear is in fact from the strike. in any case I think it would details for that scratch

I really would not detail this coin solely because of a scratch or scratches . Take another look at lower reverse fields , that's a cleaned coin my friend !

It's worth the money if you are assembling a grading set. This one is just about a poster child for "AU slider," what will eventually become the EF-48 pinpoint grade.

If it falls on the EF side of the line, it's market acceptable. If it falls on the AU side, it's about 50-50 to be detailed because of the obverse rim and reverse contact marks. Note the excessive die polishing to eliminate the heavy die clashing. The tip of the second feather has been compromised by polishing, and the buffalo's right rear leg has received similar treatment.

I can't tell from the pics whether this one has been cleaned. Most of the scratches in the fields are from the overly enthusiastic die polishing. (Moral of the story: never let a production floor apprentice have a wire brush.) Eye appeal is fairly low on this coin. I'd pass on it on a bourse floor.
Rest in Peace

Sticking with EF details (cleaned), but it may just be bright pics.
