my book was published in 87! I was looking on ebay at some walkers in(affordable) grades and thought that what I thought was good was selling for vg-fine has the standard dropped that much in the past 15 years(just getting back in after raising the kids)

Hi coggie

Welcome to the forum !!

There are those who believe that the new ANA standards are to lax !!

But grading always has and probly always will be a subjective view point, and ebay is riddled with over graded coins.

Stick with your own opinion on grade and bid accordingly !!

I'll go one step further than what Rick stated and say that maybe 95 percent of raw coins available on ebay are over-graded by their sellers.

yes I tend to agree with both of you. when I firt started collecting I had an older gentelman mentor me some and he allways drove home the point that(never accept anothers grade cartblanc. as beuty is in the ete of the beholder. as for the over gradeing this could turn many a new collecter away from the(hobby). as can the attitude of a coin dealer. who dismisses the needs of the "small" collecter infavor of the COIN INVESTOR who buys only the high end. especially when the dealers are the only show in town(or the reigon)
