1938 p Proof DDO-001 LWC (MDS) We are having our local annual coin show this weekend and they had plenty of help already so I wandered the floor. I came across an odd yellowish proof Lincoln Cent and since I don't look at many proofs (prices) I asked to see it, as well as a 1939 proof. Both in ANACS slabs. Poor lighting is the norm at the center but when I saw some thickness on the tail of the 9, I perked up. The U (TRUST), E (WE), and LIBERTY convinced me it was a class 6 but since I forgot my phone at home I couldn't search for confirmation. Glad the seller accepted my fair discounted offer because when I got home DDO-001 was a match with markers as well. Thanks for looking and it's going into my ANACS submission today. Not sure how they handle cracking it out but I'll let everyone know. Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups. We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

One of the dozen or so DDO-001 coins I am still missing. Certainly willing to trade you something super nice for it if you ever are willing to part with it. I think this one has been hard to find more because it is hard to see in most sellers photos on ebay more so than it actually being rare. Proofs can be hard to photograph and this is fairly minor class 6 doubling. Yours does look good to me and congrats on the find!

Great pick! Needs to be cracked out of the slab and needs to be reslabbed.

Thanks everyone. Finally settling in for the night after a busy weekend show.
Thanks for the insight on potential mintage for this variety TB. 14,734 proofs were minted and I'm not sure if they all sold. I think I've read that about 2,000 coins minted per die pair is a fair guess. I'm speculating here, but there may have been 7 die pair (14%).
I feel fortunate to have spotted it and won't rule anything out once it's back from ANACS with the proper attribution.
ps. It must be fairly scarce if you haven't come across one with all your finds.

Quote: Please let us know what ANACS labels it as,thanks. Thanks and I sure will. I was told it may be 6-8 weeks before I get my submission back from ANACS. Here are some more images highlighting what I picked up on with this class 6 DDO. The die crack over VDB and the irregular die gouges along the edge of the vest under the bow tie in the first group of images are the markers that matched. ps. I just noticed some apparent notching on the SE corners of RTY so this might technically have a second type of doubling as well.

John1, sure will. I was surprised by the amount of time as well since the FUN show was the only other show since the year end break.

Update: I received the coin back from ANACS and it was attributed as DDO-001 with the same 63 RB grade as the original holder. I took no chances and let them crack it out. The upward curve on the foot of the E of WE makes it easy to see this as a class 6 variety. For those interested, the fee was only about $18.00 for the variety to be added even though it was already in a slab. I hand-delivered my submission to the ANACS rep but can't remember about the shipping fees. PP55
