For collectors, notgeld are superb...........fairly, cheap and readily available, topically interesting stories and designs and beautiful to look at. In the early years of WWI, when notgeld issues were actually issued to meet the demand for small change needed for day-to-day business, designs were quite drab. As collectors started to be attracted to collecting them, they became nicer looking and more colourful in designs. Pieces were actually made, slightly different from 'usual' just so the collector had yet another piece to try and collect. Some of these differences can be spotted fairly easily.....once you are aware that the difference exists. ('Pfennig' and 'Pfennige.')
