I barely qualify as a novice collector however I started kind of collecting about 32 years ago. So I have a decent collection of verified interesting coins but I am REALLY REALLY prone to have a terrible gut reaction to what I'm looking at.
I am sure this damage is post mint damage, not a planchet error or something.
However, I am so consistently wrong on what I am "sure of" (usually thinking something is special when it turns out not) I can't help but wonder if this time I am wrong in thinking it's not worth keeping.
Haha.
That's probably confusing and stupid but if you have an opinion on this coins irregularities, please share.
If you think it is post mint damage please include your best guess as to how the heck this happened.
My biggest question is how on the reverse side, the rim widens & thins around the perimeter. On the front side it flattens on the top making it look wider in one spot but it's just kinda flattened so that's easy to speculate on. But the back side, where it widens then tapers I can't quite imagine how that happened unless it was during the metal being pressed.
Please speculate or explain.
Regarding the front, what is weird to me is how much is irregular and yet, no cuts or even chips. Other coins I have thought were mis-struck then turned out to be
PMD would have little cuts, chips or itty bitty jagged edges giving way that it was post mint damage.
Sorry for being so wordy, I'm brand new to this.
Thank you in advance for your thoughts
