They SMS were not a mint issue and they were put directly in sets. These sets just a few people have. So I doubt that any of these were broke up. They would be fresh obverse dies used: Probably less than 100 of these happened, so the dies/strikes would be real fresh. The die markers would match these coins. (Some normal strikes were made also with these dies, but the quality is not as nice as the VEDS (Very-Early-Dies-State) coins.
