I think the Royal Australian Mint is kicking off this year in great fashion. It has some stunning new releases and the interest, or maybe panic, they have generated with special ANDA show offers is causing a good stir. I would like to add my name to the list of anybody attending the fair and might be able to secure some extras :) :) As a new member I have been reading the posts and think the following our Aussie coins are getting from our friends in the US is really great, keep it up :)

When we are faced with limited scope of expanding internally with new collectors, the logical answer is to expand externally. I too, like you, am quite taken back by the interest shown in our coinage..

hopefully the local interest in australian coins will increase , as I think it has slightly declined in the past few years , all it will take is an iterest shown by some collecters from the US who realise what low mintages and excellent coins our mint makes to kick start a new wave of growth in australian coins , any asute US collecters should get on downies and the mints mailing lists just to keep an eye on anything they might fancy ,and if they are interested in australian coins there are some great bargains on australian ebay at the moment

The funny part is, except for the postage, US collectors can buy the coins from the mint cheaper than Australians can! (Australians pay an extra 10% tax on top)
Once you factor in the exchange rate, Aussie coins are a real bargain for a US investor.

Question for Bigfella?
When Americans purchase from you do you have to charge GST?
My experience has been your prices are usually equal to or better than the mints nad your postage has always been lower as well.

toast I want you to know my wife and I KNOW exactly what you are saying! And, the Australian coins seem to rise in value much much quicker due to limited or lower mintages than anything we can buy from the U.S. Mint but will add many of the Aussie offering, even though they are far more complex than that ever offered by our mint, are quite costly at times! And I am talking about issue prices. I think one benefit will balance out the other but find the Aussie offerings much more diverse, eye appealing and beautiful than our dead presidents. Even your Kangaroo and Kookaburra series change designs every year and that makes the collecting for more appealing as coins and not just silver bullion.

Got It Today !!! The "A" MM ANDA Special Issue Many thanks to member Yass. Looking at it, it is a better coin than the Alu-Bronze one. With a maximum mintage of 6,000 this one has both appeal and potential.

Show special if I am not mistaken was issued at $40 and are selling for about $55 on ebay. Not a bad increase, much better then a standard release!

The statistics for this issue do not support what you say.In less than a month since it's issue, the following prices have been realised on concluded ebay auctions: Item # 8390448164........$55.02 Item # 8390456084........$53.68 Item # 8388381230........$53.68 Item # 8388047577........$51.00 Item # 8389172048........$60.01 One major dealer have this coin for sale in their latest catalogue for $59.50 For an initial outlay (I think it is $40.00)to what it is now fetching, I would say it is a success in such a short time frame. IMHO, demand will increase when collectors realise : 1. The is the first and so far the only Aussie silver proof dollar to bear a Mint Mark. 2. We have not had a RAM Coin Fair release for a decade now.
There are three more ANDA shows where this coin will be sold, but with a maximum mintage of only 6,000, this is not enough to satisfy the demands of local collectors let alone for international ones as well.

The Mint has only released 1,500 of these so far. I wonder if the price will stay high as the remaining 4,500 get released in three more lots of 1,500 at issue price.
There are also an additional 12,500 of the same design coin without the little "A" on them being sold by the mint for A$38. (Cheaper for overseas buyers at $34.55)
Still this being the first of this type of MINT MARK or PRIVY silver dollar there should be a very large demand. If the mint stopped there the price would continue to rise. The Mint will see this as a very sucessful sales issue and I'm pretty sure that we can expect these "Mint Mark" Silver dollars every year from now on.

In my opinion I think as more get released they will drop slightly in price, however not to much maybe in the high 40's. Still nicely above issue.
